Abhishek Hazra is a visual artist and an occasional writer based in Bangalore.

Biography

Abhishek graduated from the Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology. He has exhibited and performed nationally and internationally.

His work explores the intersections between technology and culture through animated shorts and performance pieces that often integrate textual fragments drawn from real and fictional scenarios. He is also interested in the social history of scientific practices in colonial India.

Research project

The Zhabotinsky of Nonte-Fonte

Abhishek saw his time at SymbioticA as a space to perform a series of ‘failed experiments’ that explore the intersections of biological and chemical systems. He is interested in simple life forms like slime molds and Cyanobacteria and the manner in which they process and transfer information.

While he remains skeptical of the grand promises of molecular biology, its disciplinary history – particularly, the complex cross-hatching of physics and cybernetics – informed his project here. During his time at SymbioticA, Abhishek was also keen on pursuing his ongoing project on JBS Haldane and his role in formulating the ‘modern synthesis’ in evolutionary biology.
