Natalia Matewecki finished her masters thesis in December 2009.
The thesis was entitled: 'Aproximaciones al bioarte: concepto, cuerpo, género'. She is currently a PhD candidate at Universidad Nacional de La Plata, Argentina.
Matewecki’s research project “Typology and typologies of Bioart” was an analysis of SymbioticA projects, an interaction with the scientists and artists, and the study of the bibliographical material (scientific and press articles, essays, papers, catalogues).
By studying and analysing all of these elements Matewecki systematised the characteristics of Bioart as a genre (a typology), and observed any possible sub-genres (typologies) arising, for example, transgenic art.“Typology and typologies of Bioart” is related to her thesis work undertaken in the Master of Aesthetic and Theory of Art, Facultad de Bellas Artes, Universidad Nacional de La Plata (Argentina), in which Matewecki attempted to specify the characteristics of Bioart from the discussions generated in different fields by artists, scientists, critics and curators, amongst others.
