ADAM ZARETSKY USA Time of residency 2002 http://www.emutagen.com
Adam Zaretsky was the first international resident in SymbioticA. His six month residency involved intensive research and development working on the following projects: A- The Pineal Extendor B- The Brainus/Analolly Complex C- GLACK (w/ Tanja Visosevic) D- MMMM... E- VivoArts
Adam not only enthusiastically participated in the labs but was instrumental in establishing SymbioticA's undergraduate academic program with the development of the VIVOART course with Oron Catts and Gary Cass (this course led to the Art and Life Manipulation unit now offered by SymbioticA). He researched and developed MMMM: a project that embraced the humorous while seriously examining the relationships between the public and scientific experimentation. In MMMM... (Macro/Micro Music Massage) the public were invited to join in the process of sonic performance for cells in culture by becoming a part of the experiment by vocally vibrating their rear ends. To quote: "My personal favorite artistic offering to public experience is the insertion of fun for fun's sake into the social. I know this sounds simple and naive. It is. Vibrating couches are titillating....This sensual experience could abstract our importance as self centered entities by focusing on bounce as a form of transient existence"
See BIOFEEL exhibition for more information.
6 month residency funded through the Foundation Daniel Langlois.
